Why You Should Detox Through Food

Twice a year my husband and I team up to do a gentle  one week cleanse with some delicious vegan recipes. We generally do one at the beginning of the year after the holiday season extravaganza and one in the summer to get rid of the toxins accumulated during the winter and relaunch our bodies for the summer.

Cleansing through food with targeted recipes and organic ingredients is an excellent way to maintain lasting health & wellness and support your detox organs such as the liver, G.I tract, kidneys and colon.

Detoxing is a great way to:

1) transition your body from heavy winter foods to fresh seasonal lighter foods

2) boost your mood, energy, and productivity by reducing inflammation

3) shed excess weight accumulated during winter

4) eliminate toxins and heavy metals we tend to store in our cells.

Simple Detox Salad

Ingredients:

2 cups arugula or greens of your choice (dandelion, watercress and endive are great for spring detoxing)
1⁄2 cup red onions, sliced thin
1 cucumber, chopped

1⁄2 cup carrot, chopped
1⁄4 cup radish, sliced thin
1 avocado, cubed
Juice from one lemon
Sea salt and pepper to taste 1⁄4 cup of sunflower seeds

Directions:

Step one: Chop vegetables and mix in a large bowl.
Step two: Top salad with avocado and sunflower seeds.
Step three: Drizzle with lemon juice and sprinkle with sea salt, pepper.
