The summer months in New York City can be tough. The city empties and those of us left wonder what to do in the NYC heat. Welcome our 3 Places 2 Be This Summer series! Our trainers and staff are here to spill three of their favorite spots to frequent in the summer, so you can make the most of The City That Doesn’t Sleep. Up first is Laura Balsollier, our NoMad Sales and Operations Director:
1.I love going to Gilligan’s, an outdoor restaurant at the SoHo Grand. It has a tropical vibe with a food and drink menu to match. My favorite dishes are the Branzino and the stone oven pizzas (perfect for sharing as an appetizer). The summertime cocktails are the best – you can order a green juice and add organic vodka or (my absolute favorite) their Frozen Watermelon Margarita, which is just tequila, fresh watermelon, combier and lime. I try to stay away from cocktails that contain too many ingredients – the simpler the better!
2. Frying Pan is always a great place to go for happy hour after an AKT Happy Hour! You can walk there from the NoMad studio and, although they have delicious burgers, they also have healthy options like hummus and jumbo shrimp. I live downtown so I walk home along the West Side Highway afterwards.
3. During the summer, I love biking to Brooklyn Bridge Park. It’s only about a 20 minute bike ride from my apartment. (I take the Manhattan Bridge since it has a cycling lane.) You can BBQ outside on the pier, drink rosé and eat (thin crust) pizza at Fornino, or watch an outdoor movie in the park. The pier also has outdoor basketball and volleyball courts. Every summer I make a bucket list of fun activities and excursions – this summer one of them is to organize a volleyball game at the park.
